Miss Philippines, the winner of the Miss Universe contest on Sunday night, announced shortly after host Steve Harvey mistakenly crowned Miss Columbia the winner and thereafter, embarrassingly having to back and remove her crown.
Ariadna Gutiérrez Arevalo, Miss Colombia, who had been already wearing the crown on her head when host Steve Harvey had realized what a big mistake he made.
The young adult, Ms Arevalo (aged 21) was forced to remove the crown and offer it to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, with a few of the competitors noticeably upset. Others didn't seem to acknowledge what had actually happened at the time.
A stunned Miss Wurtzbach seemed staggered as she strolled to the front of the stage nearby the crown-wearing Miss Arevalo.
As the crowd gasped in awe, Miss Universe 2014, who is also from Colombia, painfully removed the crown from her companion's head and put it on Miss Wurtzbach's.
Miss Arevalo was left in tears, as she was comforted by other distressed contestants: "Everything happens for a reason," she bravely says. Miss Philippines portrayed her crowning as "non-traditional - very 2015": Steve Harvey, the host of the event, expressed that he was "so regretful" as he apologized to all effected by his mistake.
Steve Harvey said it was his error and that he would take full responsibility reading the card incorrectly which truthfully named Miss Wurtzbach the winner of Ms Universe 2015 and Ms Colombia the first runner-up.
He said a while later it was basically human mistake and added "Nobody feels worse about this than me,"
