A new zero rating platform from Vodacom allows South African job seekers to have the option of reducing their data consumption. The mobile operator which has 34.2 million customers announced on Monday that it had partnered with employment portals to launch NXL LVL (pronounced Next Level), a zero rated career website.
Jorge Mendes, Vodacom chief officer of Consumer Sales and Distribution said “By introducing this platform, Vodacom is aiming to enable customers to access job sites without worrying about the cost and in turn make a meaningful contribution in addressing unemployment.”
South Africa’s official unemployment rate stands at 26.7% for the first three months of 2016. Stats SA said that the unemployment rate was well below the 2030 target rate of 6% as set out in the National Development Plan. Employment sites on the NXL LVL include Careers24, PNet, JobMail, Career Jet, Giraffe, Career Junction, SA Learnerships and Indeed. Mendes further added that “For many of our customers, the NXL LVL career site will open up a new world of possibilities that makes finding a job more convenient and significantly more accessible.”
Job seekers will be able to upload résumés and browse for jobs on the partner sites without incurring any data cost. This programme follows the launch of Vodacom’s e-school platform which allows learners on the Vodacom network to consume educational content at no cost.
