How to Optimise Your Website

A few years ago, it was all about keyword stuffing, things like keyword density where trending topics amongst webmasters- however, today after Google update such as Humming and Rankbrain, on page SEO is much more complicated, but one thing hasn’t changed, there is a right and wrong way to optimise your content.

1) Use Short URLs – Short URLs tend to rank higher than long URLs – Luckily its quite easy to use short URLs on your website. When you publish a page on your website, make sure the URL is short and sweet, to the point

2) Include your target Keyword in your URL – When creating your URL, include your Target keyword in the URL

3) Use LSI keywords – LSI keywords or “Latent Semantic Indexing” are words and phrases that search engines use to understand what your content is all about. A popular tool to find good LSI keywords within your niche may be found here: lsigraph.com/

Search for a target keyword in Google, scroll to the bottom where Google shows you the search related section – The terms found here make greater LSI keywords to add to your content

4) Publish long content – The longer the content is, the better rankings obtained. Publishing over 1000 words of content tends to contain more LSI keywords mentioned above. When you write long content you naturally include more LSI keywords, which makes Google happy… Google always wants to show the user the best result for the user given a respective keyword.

If your webpage provides a user with a comprehensive answer to what that user is looking for, Google will want to rank you higher up on the first page.

5) Optimise your title tag for CTR – Adding your target keyword in your title tag is SEO 101, but you should also optimise your title tags for click through rates, which is a huge ranking factor right now. It has been leaked by a Google engineer that CTR is a ranking factor, meaning that the more people that click on your website listing on search, the higher up you will move in search results. This gives Google a positive signal telling them that users like your website more than your competitors.

6) Use external links – linking out of your website to non-competitive websites within your niche will get you high rankings. Include 2 – 5 outbound links to authoritative resources in all articles.

7) Internal Links – Whenever you publish a new piece of content – for maximum benefit of your internal linking, make sure you link back to 2 – 5 older pages within your website. Older pages that you want to rank higher.

8) Maximise sites speed – sites speed is one of the few ranking signals that Google has publicly confirmed.

9) Include Multimedia in your content – Video, screenshots and charts. This makes your content more valuable to your users. The longer users stay on your website, the better.
